1. Is the Era of Mass Manufacturing Coming to an End?  While I don’t believe mass manufacturing is coming to an end any time soon, I did find this article to be an interesting read.  It underscores the importance of core merchandising and marketing considerations.  What is your company’s competitive advantage?  What is your core product’s value proposition?  And, how do you cost your goods?  It also highlights the implications for individuals, society, and manufacturing companies should the rise of the Maker’s Movement continue to accelerate.  Manufacturers, take a beat and assess the vulnerability of your output.

2. 6 Smart Ways to Use YouTube to Win Customers.  There were two things here I did not know: I didn’t know that video bloggers are referred to as vloggers…geez, maybe I am getting old, and I didn’t know that there are more product reviews on YouTube than on Amazon.  All that aside, Inc’s content is just always interesting, and I wanted to share this piece as a reminder to us all to capitalize on this entertaining and engaging tool that is an exceptional bridge to our customers--YouTube.

3. What This Adorable Google ‘20% Project’ For Tracking Santa Shows About How The Company Works.  I just love this.  This effort has been growing organically within Google since 2004.  It began as a 20% project, which meant that employees were free to take a portion of their time to work on “passion projects” per se.  Does the output of a project such as this generate revenue?  No.  Is there a physical product that we can promote or get people to buy?  Not in the way you think.  But, none of that matters.  The Santa Tracker is true to the Google brand’s DNA; and because of that, it is one of the best things they could be doing.  Great job, Andres Ferrante and team.  It’s wonderful!
